A New Page for COVID-19 Resources

I have posted a new page on the blog for COVID-19 lessons and information for all ages. As I see and hear more and more misinformation being spread, I see it as natural role as a science teacher to help get the correct information out there. If you are a fellow teacher, I hope you feel the same. If you are a parent, please consider teaching your children these concepts. Or, maybe you want to understand more about all of this yourself.

I am in the process of creating this page. I chose to post it before it is completely ready because I wanted folks to be able to start learning asap. If you have specific questions that you would like to have answered, I would love to find the answers, so please ask away in the comments section on the blog.

Please continue to stay safe, and peace to all.

Well, now it is May...

By now, teachers have long ago sent out work for your children to complete at home while we continue to be on this "hiatus" from the physical school buildings. If your child(ren) are in grades pre-k - 6, it is possible that students have only received science activities for a few days a week. Supplementing the science curriculum that has been sent home is actually a great way to engage kids in fun, meaningful, and educational activities. For instance, take a look at the virtual field trip list for something different to watch on the screen. Do you want to avoid screens? Read through the list of citizen science projects that you can engage your child in... or even your entire family!

I plan on including a section for helping to instruct students about viruses, vaccinations, sound scientific practices, and COVID-19 specifically. I know that some families wish to avoid having students learn about this for the purposes of avoiding anxiety, but in other cases it may help a student to have a firm understanding of what is truly happening in terms of science. These resources will be forthcoming. (Disclaimer: I am a mom of 4 school-aged kids who is also working as a teacher from home. Things get kinda crazy here sometimes, so I work on this when I am able.) I will also be posting about my butterfly garden planning, planting, and growth!

If you have any special requests for material, PLEASE let me know! We are in this together...
